Dorr Road Loop
How to find it
Load your bike on your truck and head out South down Highway 93 from Elko. 13km or so from the Highway 3/93 junction you drop down to the river to cross a big bridge and then up the other side. As the highway climbs back up from the bridge still heading south the embankment on your right gets smaller and smaller. As soon as it flattens out on the right you will see an area you can pull across the ditch and park, with a doubletrack heading back the way you came. Park here and follow the doubletrack on your bike for about 100m until you come to an area of fence that can be opened. Go through the fence (close it behind you!), and ride North on the singletrack back towards the river.
There are lots of little trails criss-crossing this area making it pretty easy to get turned around. There is a map attached, but if you do get off the recommended trail, you are always hemmed in by river so, set where your car is on your GPS when you leave it, and you'll find your way back eventually!
The trail
A great ride when trails in Fernie are still snowy or wet. This area dries out weeks and sometimes months before Fernie. The trails are dusty rolling terrain and you can easily put in a 25 km loop out here. It tends to very up and down, so it's a great work-out. If you make it round to the South-West corner of the loop on the map (you can see a little spur on the map heading out), make sure you head to the look-out - the views are awesome. Bring plenty of water and food in case you take longer than expected!
