Fairy Creek Trail

How to find it

Head out the Visitor Centre, north of town. In the parking lot you will find a big signboard that describes and maps this trail.

The trail

More typically used as a hiking trail, it is a great ride when the ground is wet, as it is rocky. A couple of steep sections near the start make it unlikely that most will clean all of this but beyond that it is fun flowy riding. Eventually the trail turns up between the Three Sisters and Mt Proctor and heads to the summit of Mt Proctor. That's about when you should call it a day and head back unless you're looking for a lot of hike a bike! Make plenty of noise in case of hikers.

Dorr Road Loop

How to find it

Load your bike on your truck and head out South down Highway 93 from Elko. 13km or so from the Highway 3/93 junction you drop down to the river to cross a big bridge and then up the other side. As the highway climbs back up from the bridge still heading south the embankment on your right gets smaller and smaller. As soon as it flattens out on the right you will see an area you can pull across the ditch and park, with a doubletrack heading back the way you came. Park here and follow the doubletrack on your bike for about 100m until you come to an area of fence that can be opened. Go through the fence (close it behind you!), and ride North on the singletrack back towards the river.

Phat Bastard

How to find it

Ride up Burma Road from West Fernie, and about 100m beyond Stewar Avenue on your right, you can see a trail on the left heading into the woods. Ride along here, keeping to the lower trail when you see a very steep up looming up on your left. There is a wooden sign at this junction. After about 700m from Burma Road you come to a a sharp switchback right to left - make sure you head left into the forest.

The trail

An awesome climb up to the powerline. Nice and shady for hot days. Plenty of switchbacks, roots and little crossings, with an old cabin thrown in for fun.

Castle Rocks

How to find it

The trail head is right near the top of Hyper Ventilation on your right as you're going up, watch for the sign. From Hyper Ventilation it is a relatively easy spin at a 10% grade till you hit the Castle South ridge. From there head up left on the trail. There are a few mandatory walking spots, but it's pretty rideable. The panoramic view from the top is absolutely breathtaking.

Recently a bench ( materials courtesy of Transwest Mining Systems) was flown up and placed on the summit of the mountain, in the perfect spot to kick back, relax and enjoy the amazing views.
