Over the last two years The Resorts of the Canadian Rockies have directly impacted the local bike scene here in Fernie. From pancake breakfast proceeds, machine time, to cash RCR has developed a very positive relationship with the FMBC. It’s great to see RCR being community orientated.

Back in 2008 the Fernie Mountain Bike Club was in desperate need of funding to proceed with a major initiative, The Fernie Mountain Bike Park (located behind the Aquatic Center.) To help start the project off RCR gave us $700 through their Community Summit Fund. The Fernie Alpine Resort Community Summit Fund is dedicated to being a strong supporter of the local community by providing cash grants to a number of local causes and initiatives. Throughout the process RCR also helped out by donating truck time hauling dirt to our park. As time passed, all (most) of the paper work was completed and the actual build day had begun. The intense four day build saw RCR (most notably, Mountain Manager Robin Siggers) running the loader non stop! An enormous amount a machine time equaling big cash was generously donated.
The last two seasons have also seen contributions from Community Appreciation Day BBQ and Full Throttle Pancake breakfasts totaling about $2000, for volunteering help on those days.
This summer saw RCR donating prize sponsorship of all our summer events; The Tuesday Toonie Ride Series(six week ride series), High Roller Poker Ride, Project 9 All Mountain Race and Diggler DH, equaling well over $500. This year saw unprecedented support.
On September 20th the club hosted a Dirt Jump Park dirt capping volunteer session to improve and further maintain the park. again we saw mountain manager Mr. Robin Siggers at the helm of the loader working from 9am to 4pm constantly….no stopping, not even for a hotdog and pop, unmatched generosity.

I’ll stop my ramble. As you can see RCR has given a ton of support in kind and cash to the Fernie Mountain Bike Club. I would like to sincerely say thank you to RCR on behalf of the club’s members and directors for directly having impacted our local community and the mountain biking we do here. Thank you RCR.
