Black Betty

How to find it

Black Betty is one of the downs accessed off Phat Bastard. The last section of Phat Bastard, where the switchbacks end and it becomes a serious uphill grunt is also Black Betty. If you head down from the powerline, going down Phat Bastard, you come to a trail junction where PB heads left and BB heads right. This is about 400m from the powerline. Go right to ride down Black Betty. Kicks you out on Burma Road in West Fernie.

The trail

This is a great down, as you head into the thick forest halfway down it feels like someone just switched all the lights off. Some steeper sections. For a cautious rider, they may prefer to ride down Phat Bastard.

Phat Bastard

How to find it

Ride up Burma Road from West Fernie, and about 100m beyond Stewar Avenue on your right, you can see a trail on the left heading into the woods. Ride along here, keeping to the lower trail when you see a very steep up looming up on your left. There is a wooden sign at this junction. After about 700m from Burma Road you come to a a sharp switchback right to left - make sure you head left into the forest.

The trail

An awesome climb up to the powerline. Nice and shady for hot days. Plenty of switchbacks, roots and little crossings, with an old cabin thrown in for fun.

Red Sonja

How to find it

Ride up Phat Bastard onto the powerline and head across as though going to Mushroom Head. Right before the Mushroom Head singletrack starts, the entrace to Red Sonja is immediately on your right.

The trail

Epic riding - fun, bermy trail back down to Burma Road. Some wooden stunts, including a big launch that gives you the option to jump the gap or ride over the the top.

Brokeback Ridge

How to find it

Either ride up Hedonism and straight across the powerline and up the bottom of the S Bomb. About 10 minutes up here (all rideable up), on the left, is a big wooden sign for Brokeback Ridge.

Alternatively switch onto this as you come down S Bomb.

The trail

It's pretty unlikely that you would find anyone whose Top 5 in Fernie does not include Brokeback. Bermed switchback after bermed switchback, fun flowy sections all on buffed sing;etrack with a few option dirt launches. Do it!

S bomb

How to find it

The trail starts from the top of Lactic Ridge, which is accessed from the top of Mushroom Head on Fernie Mountain. It ends at the top of Hedonism on the Powerline.
